David Stover – The Bee King

Posted in Environment, Photography with tags , , on April 29, 2011 by kozmicdogz

Hayley DeRouche interviews our favorite musical preacher David Stover and others about bees and beekeeping at RVANEWS:

Stover replied that he was “reading the morning paper and in the home and garden section, there was information about a bee workshop, and I told my wife ‘I think I’d like to do that’. Then I never acted on that. Exactly a year later, there was another ad for another bee workshop, and when I mentioned it to my wife, she laughed and said, ‘Oh yeah right, you’re going to do that!’ so I signed up…and the rest is history!”

Here for a portrait by Willie Anne Wright of Stover taking a photo of bees!

Sometimes work seems to take over life. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad I have a job, but I could sure use some time off.

18th James River Film Festival April 7-13

Posted in Film with tags , , on April 4, 2011 by kozmicdogz

The volunteer run James River Film Society brings us the 18th James River Film Festival this week.

The festival runs from Thursday April 7 through Wednesday April 13th.

Lots of films all over town, go to their website for showings and tickets.

Here is the film society’s blog!

About the James River Film Society from their website:

The James River Film Society (JRFS) supports independent media artists and enthusiasts by providing public screenings, classes, workshops as well as access to equipment, information and resources.

The JRFS was originally formed as the Richmond Moving Image Co-Op (RMIC) in 1999 through a partnership between the James River Film Festival and Flicker. RMIC was incorporated on March 1, 1999, and received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status from the IRS on July 21, 1999. In 2010 the RMIC changed its name to the James River Film Society to better communicate its mission through its name. The JRFS is an all-volunteer run organization.
