My friend, Amy Crehore, will have an opening in Los Angeles at the Thinkspace Gallery on Friday, February 13th, 2009 from 7-11 pm. She will be featuring her painted ukuleles and the Hokum Scorchers will play opening night. Quite a treat!

Amy has posted a sneak preview of her show on her flickr site. Her site shows photos of her studio and her hand-painted antique ukuleles.

Amy says her show, “…will include 14 brand new oil paintings on linen and 13 hand-painted, antique ukuleles, fully restored and set up by a luthier (rare 1920’s and 30’s, some near mint, all kinds of designs, some brand names) Ukes will be displayed next to paintings as fine art objects.”

You can also find an interview with Amy in the February issue of “Inked Magazine” and in a group show called “Movers and Shakers” at the POVevolving Gallery opening Valentine’s Day in LA. Amy has been one busy woman!

“Hollywood Ending”

Posted in Film on January 24, 2009 by kozmicdogz

hendingLast night we watched “Hollywood Ending” on DVD. Written and directed by Woody Allen in 2002 the film stars Tea Leoni, Treat Williams, Debra Messing, and George Hamilton. Mary Rydall plays Al, Val Waxman’s faithful agent. Allen plays, Waxman, a neurotic (Allen) film director who is on the downside of his career. He must make this film to revive it. Messing is at her Lucielle Ball best and Tea Leoni is great as Woody Allen’s straight man.

A dear friend gave me this DVD last year for my birthday, it was a nice Saturday-night-at-home movie, even though it was Friday! Grandma and the kids can watch this one too.

The Envelope Please!

The nominations for the 81st Academy Awards were announced today. Some how I missed this entirely. I also seem to have to go see that button movie with Brad Pitt which got 13 nominations!

And as good as Sean Penn was in “Milk” (I think he will get the nod for best actor) I really want Mickey Rourke to get the oscar for “The Wrestler” which I have not even seen yet!

The Oscars will air, Sunday, February 22nd at 8pm on the right coast.
