Yonder Comes The Devil

Posted in Writers & Writing with tags , , , on November 18, 2015 by kozmicdogz

Yonder comes the devil

With his pitch-fork and shovel

He was digging up potatoes in the turnpike road.

And the road was so hard and he couldn’t get ’em up,

So yonder run the Devil with his tail cocked up.

[Traditional English folk song of which portions were found written in a ship’s log, 1855]

Robert Hodierne, Private Woods, 1967 ( digital print, 2015) –   © Robert Hodierne

Amazing show of photographs by journalist and University of Richmond professor, Robert Hodierne. Over 40 photographs taken between 1967 and 1970 in Vietnam.

The show runs from September 17, 2015 through January 26, 2015. It is at the Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature. Sunday through Friday 1pm to 5pm at the University of Richmond.

From the gallery website.

While his photographs have been published in many of the world’s major print publications and continue to be published in books and used in documentaries about the war, most of the images in this exhibition have never been published. The photographs reflect his concern for the ordinary soldier as seen in their faces, faces that have the same haunted look you see on the faces from all the wars that have been photographed. The majority of his work was in black and white, although the exhibition includes one battle he photographed in color.

Artist’s Gallery Talk, Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature
Wednesday, November 11 (Veterans Day), 2 to 2:45 p.m.

Dreaming of zombies, wolves, and stolen cars.

And I still wake with a belief that anything is possible.
