Richmond Theatre Fire 200th Anniversary

Jeremy Slayton has an good article in the Richmond Times Dispatch today about the great theatre fire of 1811. The theatre fire took place 200 years ago on December 26, 1811 at the corner of 12th and E. Broad Streets.  Slayton interviews local historians about the fire, aftermath, and how the event effected Richmond.

Many of the 72 victims are buried in the crypt beneath Monumental Church which was built at the site of the tragedy.
